Support local business, secure more investment in our local services and regeneration for Perth and Kinross-shire

Our towns, rural areas and the City of Perth need more investment, jobs and infrastructure. 

For too long Perth and Kinross-shire has been left behind, losing out to Dundee or other cities. This has to change, not by taking from others but building on our strengths: our natural assets, people and ideas.

We have a collection of local community groups, trusts, chambers and development boards that are doing fantastic work, but I want to use my role as MP to coordinate these groups together and secure funding for Perth and Kinross Council from the devolved Scottish Government and the national UK Government. The point of this initiative is to secure more jobs, opportunities and reduce poverty and deprivation in Perth and Kinross-shire.

My Record:

  • Secured £10m from UK Government funding for the redeveloped Perth Museum
  • Secured £1m UK Government funding for a new facility for the Crieff Highland Games
  • Secured £1.3m UK Government funding for Aerospace Kinross
  • Secured £100k UK funding for Innerpeffray Library
  • £1m UK Government funding for rural broadband
  • On-going support for community groups and plans across P&K, including the Drummond Arms in Crieff, and fundraising for local support groups

My Plan:

  1. A co-ordinated action plan and development body for Perth City - working with existing groups and the Council
  2. Protect and improve our local health and leisure services, specifically the PRI, community hospitals and our swimming pools and ice rink
  3. Securing further support for flood-impacted areas across our region, including defences for the future
  4. Clear development plan for Kinross-shire - demanding infrastructure and opportunities to match increased housing
  5. Campaign for improved transport links, including completing the dualling of the A9 and restoration of Perth to Edinburgh rail link, with stop in Kinross-shire and funding to tackle pot holes!
  6. Action on the Drummond Arms and other empty buildings in Crieff, building a Crieff Master Plan
