Standing up for farmers and our rural communities

I promise to continue to be a rural champion at Westminster and ensure that rural life in Perth and Kinross-shire is not ignored.

The focus in Scotland is too much on the central belt and not enough on the farms, people and rural businesses that make so many of the foods, products and services Scotland (and the rest of the UK) relies upon. I will ensure our voice is heard loud and clear in Holyrood and Westminster and we receive the funding, opportunities and support we deserve.

My Record:

  • Secured £1m funding for rural broadband from UK Government
  • Worked on UK-wide agriculture bill, including securing Scottish provisions
  • Held roundtables with local farmers, and secured direct contact with ministers
  • Held Westminster event for Scottish Young Farmers which included meeting the Secretary of State for Agriculture

My Plan:

  1. Secure a fair funding settlement from the devolved Scottish Government
  2. Work with MSPs to guarantee the Scottish Agriculture bill works for our farmers
  3. Support local businesses access community and levelling up funds
  4. Ensure young farmers always have a voice in Parliament.
